Radiation therapy is essential to the successful treatment of many malignancies. It is one of the cornerstones of a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to cancer care and often used in conjunction with surgery and/or chemotherapy. In some cases, radiation therapy can function as a more effective, less invasive primary treatment option, even replacing surgery.
At Centrelake Imaging, we offer radiation oncology services to improve patients’ health and their lives. Our comprehensive approach utilizes the skills and technical expertise of radiation oncologists, medical physicists, radiation therapists, and dosimetrists. Our radiation oncology team delivers compassionate care using the latest technologies and advancements in radiation therapy to help our patients successfully fight the battle against cancer.
Radiation therapy uses high-energy particles or waves, such as x-rays, gamma rays, electrons, or protons to destroy or damage cancer cells. It is usually part of the main treatment for cancers such as those in the head and neck, bladder, lung, and Hodgkin’s disease, but many other cancers can also be treated with radiation therapy. Every year, thousands of people become cancer-free after receiving radiation treatments, either alone or in combination with other treatments such as surgery or chemotherapy.
With recent advances in cancer treatment, radiation oncologists are now able to map a cancerous site and deliver precise beams of radiation directly to the diseased tissue. However, differences do exist in the quality of radiation care and equipment. Centrelake Imaging & Oncology features state-of-the-art equipment including Varian 21iX and 2100C/D, CT Simulation, Elekta’s MOSAIQ® Care Management Software, and Philip’s Pinnacle Expert 3D Treatment Planning tools.
Our specially trained, board-certified radiation oncologists are skilled in both standard and unique radiation therapies. We are committed to patient care and are constantly seeking innovative ways to use existing technology and new therapies to help our patients.
Centrelake Imaging & Oncology is well-equipped to treat practically any malignancy with a ground-breaking Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT). IMRT is a dynamic treatment technique where high dose volumes of radiation are sculpted to the unique shape of each patient’s tumor. Based on the tumor size, shape, and location, a powerful advanced computer program plans a precise dose of radiation in three dimensions. IMRT directs radiation at the tumor and varies the intensity of pencil thin beams of radiation focusing on the tumor from multiple directions with high precision. IMRT adds greater accuracy, higher cancer control rate, and lower rate of side effects. IMRT is particularly effective against prostate, brain, and head and neck cancers.
